GOLFERS ARE ATHLETES AND SHOULD TRAIN AS SUCH!

Too many golfers don’t strength train or condition their bodies enough for the game of golf. Golf for the most part is a slow paced sport very different from basketball, football or hockey. The exception to this rule is the explosive action of the golf swing. For about 2-3 seconds the golf swing is violent on the body and the body needs to be conditioned to perform this action. This explosive action places significant stress on shoulder, elbow, wrist joints, and produces high torque forces on the low back and hip structures. For these reasons the golf swing is an athletic movement that demands strength, flexibility and timing.

Most people think the immediate fix is buying new technology clubs. This is NOT going to help your golf game long term!! Training with SST, becoming more flexible, and developing good nutrition habits will. At SST something as simple as a tool from Canadian Tire will increase your grip strength and enable you to get through the long grass (not that you should be in there anyway) and improve club head speed. Every golfer will have a personalized program to correct their imbalances and ongoing coaching to make sure they are continue to improve every week.
SST’s nutritional analysis, called BioSignature, individualizes foods and supplements for every athlete. Measurements are taken from 10 sites on the body that allow us to evaluate each individual and determine what they need to become better.

Why should golfer’s strength train?

If all the parts needed to make a technical, powerful, fluid swing aren’t strong and fit then the body will fail, most likely due to injury. Sore back and shoulder pain are the most common problem associated with the golf swing. These nagging, painful injuries can be prevented with full body strength conditioning and flexibility.
Fact: More flexible, strong, supple bodies will see dramatic increases in distance, accuracy and the ability to repeat a sound golf swing.

Being strong doesn’t mean adding bulk or weight!

What age should strength training be implemented?

Any age can benefit from strength training. Strength training has been agreed upon across the golf world by professionals to be safe at all ages. Strengthening muscles, joints, and bones with appropriate weight will, overtime, greatly decrease the chance for injury and increase performance.

Golf and strength conditioning have become synonymous because of two words, TIGER WOODS. Everyone has seen the dramatic change in his golf swing and physical makeup, Tiger himself attributes a lot of his success to strength training and conditioning to becoming a better golfer. Many other tour players have now started strength training and it is easy to see the difference. Golf is now considered an athletic sport much the same as football or hockey.

Exercise Selection / Benefits to Off-Course Conditioning

Golf as with any other sport has its own physical demands. Different exercise selections will focus on the major contributors to the golf swing.
- Core stability and quickness
- Hip flexibility
- Low back strength
- Proper posture

These are keys to performing a good golf swing for an entire round and throughout the season. Once these key points are strengthened and conditioned huge gains will start to transfer from the conditioning side to the course. All golfers should expect to:
- Learn a proper warm up and cool down
- Drive the ball further off the tee
- Dial in your short irons with increased accuracy
- No more soreness during or after your round!!
- Improve the mental side of their golf game through SSTs BioSignature
- Nutrition to keep you fueled on the course
- Nutrition to make you a better athlete!!
